November 23-25. 2008 Mikheil Ananidze Deputy chairman of Young Scientist Union “Intellect†participated on conference named “The future belongs to us – but how should we handle it?†conducted under the initiative of Assembly of European Regions, which was held in Wiesbaden, Germany. Organizers of the conference were: Assembly of European Regions,
German Hertie Foundation and Hessen Region.
The main goal of conference was to establish Assembly of European Regions Youth Regional Network, which will:
- Provide a common European platform of youth organisations acting at regional level;
- Exchange practices and experiences of youth organisations in the European regions;
- Put into practice the principle of subsidiarity in the field of youth policy;
- Bring young citizens closer to Europe while acknowledging their regional identities, and thus give real meaning to the idea of “unity in diversityâ€.
There have been worked out and adopted resolution, which expresses wish of European Youth to be involved actively to build the future of Europe, because:
- Young people are directly affected by the decisions made by governments at European, national and regional level;
- Young people have the right to affect what happens around them;
- Young people are the future of Europe.
New established organization actively goes on to work upon various issues in the future, which provides involvement of more youth in development and reinforcement of their regions.
Despite, the conference from Adjara was presented by only representative, all that Adjara joined in the list of founders of above mentioned organization. The conference from Georgia, except Adjara Region, was presented by three representatives from Guria region.
